What is Homeopathy?

“Fight like with like.”
— Samuel Hahnemann

Homeopathy is a system of natural medicine that encourages the body to return to a natural state of balance and health. Homeopathic medicines help "fill-in" the gaps in the body to stimulate a person’s own healing potential and energies. When this occurs, you’ll have access to your body’s natural strength and wisdom, and can avoid using conventional medicines and chemical-based substances.

Homeopathy was founded by the German physician, Samuel Hahnemann, who practiced its principles for 50 years before his death in 1843. He discovered when he took cinchona bark (used at the time to treat malaria) for days, he developed symptoms of malaria. Through this experience, he created what is known today as the Law of Similars, which states that effective drugs must produce symptoms in healthy people that are similar to the diseases they will be expected to treat.

Homeopathy is based on three principles:

Antidote Substances and practices to Avoid:
  • Coffee
  • Camphor, or camphorated products including products containing eucalyptus and camphor oils

  • Mint, or mentholated products

  • Recreational drugs
  • Some conventional drugs (Be sure to tell your homeopath what you are taking)
  • X-Rays
  • Stress - which can lower the resonance of a homeopathic remedy
